About Walker Street Conservancy

The Walker Street Conservancy is a community built non-profit organization founded on November 9, 2022. It is located in the Mount Auburn Historical District of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Our Mission

Firstly, the mission of the Walker Street Conservancy is to preserve and maintain a green space in a densely populated, urban area within the City of Cincinnati. The goal is that creating and maintaining quality natural areas and green space will aid in the preservation of land for future generations.

Secondly, WSC will offer a scholarship with any available funds / fundraising proceeds to support a student pursuing a degree in an academic discipline related to the purpose of the organization, e.g. urban planning, land conservancy, etc.

The purpose of WSC is to further the following goals: Restoration and preservation of land areas for outdoor recreation by the general public.
Preservation of an open, green space for the scenic and recreational enjoyment of the general public.
These activities will also further the educational purpose of WSC by raising awareness of the importance of natural preservation.

Our Members

Alice is a retired attorney who resides in Mt. Auburn. While still practicing law, she assisted in the formation of the Walker Street Homeowners Association, which maintains the street’s private sewer line. She continues to serve as Secretary of the Association. As Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Walker Street Conservancy, Alice is responsible for preparing the minutes of the Board meetings, sending correspondence, and maintaining Conservancy documents.

Beth is the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation’s Associate Director and is responsible for community outreach, CSF’s Annual Fund, and event planning. Before moving to Cincinnati, Beth worked with individuals to complete their high school diploma and achieve their GED at Portland Adult and Community Education. Beth also served on the Board of Directors for Contemporary Dance Theater for 25 years.

Andy has been a resident of Walker Street since 2000. Before being transferred to Cincinnati, Andy was very active in his local community. Andy had served of a town council member and was also twice elected Mayor of his town in Pennsylvania. At the same time, Andy was also an active member of the local fire department, working his way up to serving a Fire Chief, until moving to Cincinnati.
Andy worked for International Paper Company as Sr. Research Project Engineer, until retiring in 2022

Andy’s Walker Street achievements include spending a great deal of time mowing and beautifying the vacant city lot at the beginning of Walker Street, along with the property now known as The walker Street Conservancy.

After a landslide occurred on the hillside behind the homes on Walker Street, Andy spent many months working with City of Cincinnati Council members and property owners to have the “Walker Street retaining wall” built to stabilize 20 homes on Walker Street. Andy also worked with Uptown Rentals to obtain the property that is now known as “The Walker Street Conservancy”.

Doug has been a Walker Street resident for 27 years. When he is not being a really serious lawyer, he spends much of his spare time volunteering with student organizations at the high school and college level. Doug recently completed a five-year term as General Counsel of the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation, and was awarded the Millsap Medal for Distinguished Foundation Service.

Doug’s Walker Street achievements include drafting the petition to convince the City of Cincinnati to build a retaining wall for Walker Street, creating a neighborhood association to manage Walker Street’s private sewer line, and obtaining the 501(c)(3) status for the Walker Street Conservancy.

Tim is a recently retired financial analyst for law firm Frost Brown Todd.

Tim has lived on Walker street since 2000 with his partner Ricky and little dog, Sierra Crush.

Tim & Ricky started clearing and planting a small green space in the spring of 2005 and with the inspiration of neighbor Bob Carran, started the monumental task of continuing that garden space over the entire Walker street hillside.

Ricky (with some help from Andy, Corey, Bob, and Tim) found foundation stones and built retaining walls on the hillside for plantings. Soon, other residents joined in to make Walker street the quiet and (we hope) inspiring retreat from the hustle of our great city.
